Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hit three homers and scored ten runs in the second inning on Sunday to beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 12-2 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers cracked four homers in the game as they took three of four games in the series with the Bandits.

Quad Cities (32-41 overall, 1-3 second half) took the early lead with two runs in the first inning. Osvaldo Duarte started the game with a double and went to third on a wild pitch. Kyle Tucker knocked in Duarte with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. Hector Roa would triple and Dexture McCall made it 2-0 with an RBI single.

The Wisconsin offense went down in order in the bottom of the first inning, but that wasn't the case in the second.

Jake Gatewood, who had four hits in Sunday's game, started the onslaught with a one-out single. Then, Mitch Ghelfi drew a walk. Troy Stokes, Jr. was next and he lifted a deep fly over the batters' eye in center for a three-run homer. The home run was the first of the season for Stokes and put the Rattlers (37-37, 3-1) up 3-2.

Quad Cities starting pitcher Justin Ferrell got the next batter for the second out, but couldn't find the final out of the inning as the next nine Timber Rattlers batters would reach base.

Sthervin Matos tripled to right-center before Carlos Belonis lined a homer to the Quad Cities bullpen in left-center. Then, Luis Aviles walked before Isan Diaz singled to right. David Denson drove a homer over the batters' eye in center for a three-run shot and an 8-2 lead. That third homer of the inning also drove Ferrell out of the game.

Gatewood greeted Juan Carlos Santos with a double. Ghelfi blooped a double into right to score Gatewood. Stokes walked to put two runners on base. Alan Sharkey capped the inning with an RBI single to score Ghelfi and the Rattlers were up 10-2.

Williams cruised after the offensive outburst. He pitched six innings and only allowed one hit after the first. Williams walked one and struck out six to put himself in line for his third win of the season.

Stokes drove in his fourth run of the game with a single in the fourth inning. Aviles finished the scoring with a line drive home run to left field in the eighth.

Drake Owenby pitched three scoreless innings out of the Wisconsin bullpen and struck out four to pick up his second save of the season.

Each Timber Rattlers hitter in the lineup had at least one hit as the team totaled fifteen hits in the game. There were four homers, a triple, two doubles, and eight singles in a smorgasbord of offense for Wisconsin.

The Timber Rattlers continue their homestand on Monday night when they welcome the Clinton LumberKings to town for the start of a four-game series. Jordan Yamamoto (3-2, 3.32) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Clinton has named Art Warren (8-1, 2.22) as their starter. Game time is 7:05pm.
