Texas AirHogs News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs swept Joplin in a doubleheader at AirHogs Stadium on Saturday 4-3 in 13 innings and 9-2 in 7 innings. Tyler Ihrig and Tyler Harris each picked up a win for the AirHogs, who sealed their 1st South Division series win of the season. The team got out to an early lead behind starter Cody Hebner in Game 1 on an RBI single by Juan Sanchez. Cody Lenahan added a 2-RBI double, the first of 3 doubles in the doubleheader for the right fielder, in the 2nd, and the Blasters and the AirHogs entered the 4th tied at 3.

The score would hold all the way to the bottom of the 13th. Pitching in the 6th extra inning of what was scheduled to be a 7-inning opener to the doubleheader, relief man Nate Carter quickly put away the first 2 he faced. But Will DuPont, batting for DH Devon Rodriguez, reached with a walk after working the count full. Brian Bistagne pushed him to 3rd with a base hit to right, and DuPont was able to dive across the plate on a wild pitch by Carter to score the winning run.

The contest was the longest of the year for both the AirHogs and the Blasters.

Tyler Harris got the ball to start for the AirHogs in Game 2. He surrendered a 2nd inning home run to Edwin Gomez, but his bats quickly regained the lead. In the 4th, Lenahan and Michael Valadez each took Blasters starter Josue Montanez for 2-RBI doubles to make it 4-1. The squad added a 3-run 5th highlighted by a 2-run home run by Brian Bistagne and got a 2-RBI single in the 6th from Burt Reynolds to seal a 9-2 win.

The team enjoys a day off tomorrow before traveling to Wichita on Monday to open a 4-game set against the Wingnuts at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm Monday evening.
