Warriors Duo Selected at 2016 NHL Entry Draft

Moose Jaw Warriors Brett Howden and Noah Gregor were selected this weekend at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft in Buffalo, New York.

The first Warrior off the board was forward Brett Howden, who was selected in the 1st round, 27th overall, by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Last year Howden had 24 goals and 64 points in 68 games and finished fourth in team scoring. During the 2016 WHL Playoffs he had four goals and 15 points in 10 games and was tied for third in team scoring.

From Oakbank, Manitoba, Howden was selected 5th overall by the Warriors in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, in his rookie season in 2014-2015 he finished with 22 goals and 46 points in 68 games and was 5th in the WHL in rookie scoring.

Howden took part in the 2016 NHL/CHL Top Prospects game along with teammates Noah Gregor and Zach Sawchenko. He competed at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championships, he had five goals and eight points in six games and was named one of Canada's top three players at the tournament. Coming up next month he will take part in Hockey Canada's World Junior Summer Development Camp.

Noah Gregor was drafted by the Western Conference Champion San Jose Sharks in the 4th round, 111th overall.

Gregor's first full season in the WHL came last year, he was third in team scoring with 28 goals and 73 points in 72 games, and he was second on the team with 15 power play goals. In the 2016 WHL Playoffs he had three goals and nine points in 15 games.

Gregor was second in WHL rookie scoring, he was the Eastern Conference nominee for the WHL Rookie of the year Award, and he took part in the 2016 NHL/CHL Top Prospects Game, and competed for Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Championships.
