Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Denver University freshman and former Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Blake Hillman was the sixth round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday during the NHL Draft in Buffalo.
The big blue-liner recorded three goals and eight assists for the Pioneers last winter. Hillman played in all but two 2015/16 Denver games. He helped the program reach the Frozen Four by recording two goals and five points during the NCAA Tournament.
"Blake was only with us for a short time but he made a difference while he was part of our organization," said Head Coach P.K. O'Handley. "It was terrific to watch him this spring at the end of the college season and I hope that was just a bit of what is ahead for Blake."
Waterloo acquired Hillman from the Dubuque Fighting Saints just prior to the 2014/15 trade deadline. He went on to record seven assists for the Black Hawks during just 13 appearances. The Elk River, Minnesota, native was +6 during his time in Waterloo.
Last autumn, Vince Hinostroza became the first Waterloo Black Hawk to become a Chicago Blackhawk for a regular season game. Chicago selected the forward during the sixth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, in the midst of his three seasons in Waterloo.
