Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, Wis. - Last night was a late one for the Bullfrogs as they defeated the Kalamazoo Growlers 6-5 in 13th innings. The Bullfrogs controlled most of the game but lost two leads in the 9th and 10th innings. The team was able to recover for the victory. Their record now moves to 9-15 on the season.

It was a bullpen game for the Bullfrogs as they sent seven pitchers to the mound. Matt Ellenbest (Morehead State) got the start for the Bullfrogs as he went two innings, giving up two runs. Clayton Uselman (Madison College) and Jeremy Graf (Flagler) threw four plus innings and combined to allow no runs during their efforts.

The game got interesting in the bottom of the 8th when the Growlers pulled within one run of the Bullfrogs after an RBI single by Jordan Verdon (San Diego State). Now in the bottom of the ninth, Logan Elliot (Mississippi State) came on to close the game out. After striking out the first batter, Elliot gave up back to back hits and allowed the tying run to come around and score.

In the top of the 10th, the Bullfrogs would retake the lead after Marcus Shoemaker (Lenoir Rhyne) sent a fastball right back up the middle to score Randell Kanemaru (Columbia). The Bullfrogs would have their second opportunity to close this one out as Harrisen Egly (Columbia) took the mound. The Growlers would not fall as they plated the tying run on a sacrifice fly by Kasey Cooper (Arkansas Fort-Smith).

Both the Bullfrogs and Growlers would go quietly in the 11th and 12th innings. In the top of the 13th, Brian Lees (Southeast Missouri State) came up to bat with Shoemaker at second base. The catcher laced a single up the middle and Shoemaker came around and scored the go ahead run. In the bottom half of the inning, Matt Gunter (Hawaii Pacific) put the Growlers away and earned the victory for the Bullfrogs.

Tonight the Bullfrogs look to ride the momentum of an extra innings win into this upcoming series against Madison. Austin Hancock will take the ball for the Bullfrogs. The right-hander out of Lenoir Rhyne has been spectacular so far this season. In four starts, Hancock has a 1-2 record and has posted a incredible 0.78 ERA while striking out 24 batters in 23 innings. Last start against the Mallards, Hancock threw seven scoreless innings on his way to his first victory of the season. The Mallards will send right-hander Frank German (North Florida) to the mound. In three starts this season, German is 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA.

First pitch is at 6:35pm.

Fans in attendance will stick around for post-game fireworks, sponsored by Pepsi.
