ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Columbia and Augusta kicked off the second half of the season Thursday. The Fireflies dropped the series opener to the GreenJackets, 6-3, at Spirit Communications Park. Milton Ramos flashed the leather and Joe Tuschak blasted his third home run of the season.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Fireflies swept the GreenJackets the last time they visited Spirit Communications Park from May 23-25. Columbia mashed 15 hits-including four home runs-in the middle game of that series en route to a 14-2 victory. The Fireflies outscored Augusta 23-7 in the three-game series. It was the first sweep in Spirit Communications Park history.
INGRAM IGNITES: Fireflies starting pitcher Chase Ingram takes the ball in game two of the series. The Tampa right-hander has allowed just two earned runs in his last two starts. Ingram makes his fourth straight start at Spirit Communications Park. The 21-year-old has found a groove pitching in Columbia. In his seven home starts, Ingram's ERA is 3.08.
ALLIES: Columbia's hitting coach Joel Fuentes played in the San Francisco Giants organization from 1997 to 2003. Fuentes spent the 1999 season with the Giants advanced-A affiliate in California, the Bakersfield Blaze. Fuentes was roommates with Augusta's hitting coach, Doug Clark. Clark later went on to play in the majors with San Francisco in 2005 and with the Oakland A's in 2006.
THE OTHER GUYS: The GreenJackets have three Giants prospects on their roster according to MLB.com.
