In the ninth round of the 2016 NAHL Draft, the Magicians selected defenseman Alex Spencer from Duluth East High School.
Spencer has been a key defenseman for the Duluth East Greyhounds for the past three seasons, contributing to two Minnesota Class AA State Tournament appearances for his team. As a junior, Spencer played in 24 games for Duluth East, contributing 2 goals and an assist to go along with 38 penalty minutes. As a senior last season, he added 8 more regular season points, and added a goal and two assists in three playoff games.
