Edenton Steamers News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, NC - The Edenton Steamers snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 9-1 win over the Morehead City Marlins on Thursday night. Edenton (8-13) won its first game since June 14, while Morehead City (11-9) dropped its second home game against the Clams.

Ted Christie grabbed the win for the Teal and Black. Christie (1-2) shut out the Marlins on two hits with one walk to five strikeouts over five innings of work.

Troy Nelson shouldered the loss for Morehead City. Nelson (0-2) lasted 1.2 innings, allowing five runs on as many hits while walking three batters and fanning one.

The Clams got off to a quick start with two runs in the first. Three doubles from Bobby Schuman, Richie Cunningham and Thatcher Coleman gave Edenton a 2-0 advantage after the top of the first.

Edenton added three more runs in the second. Ryan Byers and Ben Prada each drew one-out walks, and Aaron Aucker cleared the bases with a double. Schuman cracked his second double of the game to score Aucker and give the Steamers a 5-0 lead.

The Edenton bats quieted until the ninth inning, when they plated four more runs to close out the scoring. Prada singled to start the inning, and the Clams loaded the bases with singles from Schuman and Cunningham. A wild pitch in the next at bat advanced the runners and scored Prada, before Tony Rosselli knocked a triple to center field to bring home Schuman and Cunningham. Coleman bounced out third to plate Rosselli in the next at bat, giving the Steamers a 9-1 advantage.

The Edenton Steamers make their first overnight trip of the season, starting in Gastonia against the Grizzlies on Friday night. The Teal and Black take on the Asheboro Copperheads on Saturday, before returning to Historic Hicks Field to host the Lexington County Blowfish on Monday.
