Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

BELLINGHAM, WA - The Yakima Valley Pippins were unable to match last night's comeback efforts, falling 4-2 against the Bellingham Bells in Thursday night's series finale at Joe Martin Field.

Freddy Smith (Cal State Northridge) provided the Pippins (11-7) an early cushion, delivering an RBI groundout scoring Jace VanDeBrake (Gonzaga), who led off the contest with a walk. Tanner Simpson (Columbia Basin CC) took his first loss of the season pitching six innings of work allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits, striking out five while walking none.

After being held hitless over the first six innings, Cameron Haskell (UC Riverside) got the Pippins on the hit column with an RBI single, making it 3-2 Bells. Bellingham scored all three runs in the 5th inning on four base hits, including a game-winning RBI double from Andrew Cardenas.

Trent Schulte (Gonzaga) allowed one run in the 7th inning and Cameron Haskell finished things out pitching the 8th inning. Michael Filia (UC Irvine) walked twice, scoring in the 7th inning on the RBI single by Haskell. The Pippins were held to a season-low two hits, dropping their first three-game series of the West Coast League season.

The Yakima Valley Pippins return home for a five game home stand at Yakima County Stadium starting Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Walla Walla Sweets. Make sure to stick around for post-game fireworks presented by Banner Bank. Fans can listen to the action live on 1460 ESPN Yakima, the official home for Pippins Baseball.
