Kaczmarski's Big Double Catalyzes Comeback

Columbia Fireflies News Release

ROME, GA - Columbia copied its recipe for success from Monday's win against Rome and duplicated it on Tuesday night. The Fireflies came back from a two-run deficit to down the Braves at State Mutual Stadium, 4-3. Columbia hasn't lost in Rome this season and goes for its second straight three-game road sweep of the Braves on Wednesday afternoon.

Facing a one-run deficit in the top of the fifth, outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 lead with a bases-clearing double off of Touki Toussaint (L, 1-5). Joe Tuschak, Jose Garcia and Vinny Siena all came home to score when Kaczmarski blistered a fastball into the right-center field gap.

Things started to get tight after the big hit. Kevin Canelon (W, 4-3) surrendered just two runs in his first six frames, but allowed Lucas Herbert and Leudys Baez to reach base with one out in the seventh. Manager Jose Leger lifted Canelon for reliever Christian Montgomery. Ray-Patrick Didder plated one run with a single off of the righty, but Montgomery then struck out Austin Riley with the bases loaded to end the threat. Columbia (27-25) still led, 4-3.

Rome (20-32) loaded the bases again in the bottom of the eighth. This time it was Alex Palsha (S, 7) who struck out Alejandro Salazar to silence the second Braves rally. Palsha then closed out the game in the ninth, picking up the five-out save.

The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Carlos Castro launched a mammoth home run over the center-field wall. Each team then scored an unearned run in third and fourth frames.

The Fireflies can complete the three-game sweep on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Righty Tyler Badamo (2-3, 3.47) is back on the hill to face Rome right-hander Mike Soroka (1-5, 2.62).

The game will not be carried live on the air, but will be re-broadcast on WGCV 620 AM, 105.1 and 96.3 FM and the TuneIn Radio app at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
