Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After a week on the road, the TinCaps returned to Parkview Field with a 5-1 win over the South Bend Cubs on Tuesday night.

Fort Wayne (27-25) right fielder Jhonatan Peña broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with a bases-loaded single off reliever Casey Bloomquist (L, 3-2). Peña's hit scored third baseman Carlos Belen, who reached to begin the frame on a throwing error by South Bend's shortstop Bryant Flete. Bloomquist then walked designated hitter Nick Vilter and shortstop Ruddy Giron to load the bases.

The TinCaps added two more runs in the seventh as left fielder Kodie Tidwell grounded into a double play that brought Vilter in to make it 3-1. With two outs, second baseman Peter Van Gansen lined a single off Bloomquist, his former teammate at Cal Poly, to plate Giron.

In the eighth, Giron hit a two-out triple to score Vilter, who had singled, and cushion the advantage to 5-1.

Tidwell started the scoring for Fort Wayne in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left-center field off Cubs left-handed starter Kyle Twomey. That tied the game, 1-1.
