Mets Squeak Past SeaWolves

The SeaWolves dropped the series opener to the Binghamton Mets on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park, 11-2.
Binghamton jumped ahead in the second inning against Erie starter Josh Turley. With one out, Maikis De La Cruz, Xorge Carrillo and Stefan Sabol all singled, loading the bases. L.J. Mazzilli lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring De La Cruz for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves responded in the last of the third against Mets starter Robert Gsellman. Harold Castro led off with a single tied the game when he scored on a JaCoby Jones double. Erie then loaded the bases on a Dean Green walk and Corey Jones hit-by-pitch. Casey Frawley singled home Jones making it 2-1 in favor of the 'Wolves.
The Mets tied the game in the fourth. Matt Oberste led off with a single and moved to third on a Carrillo base hit. Oberste scored on a Sabol groundout, tying the game.
Binghamton regained the lead in the fourth. Derrik Gibson led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a groundout. He scored on a Dominic Smith two-out single making it 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, the Mets added to the lead. Sabol led off with a double and Mazzilli reached on an error, putting runners on the corners. Gibson singled home Sabol for a 4-2 lead. Phillip Evans doubled home both baserunners making it 6-2.
In the seventh, Binghamton added two more runs on a pair of solo home runs off of Santiago Garrido. Oberste led off with a home run to right and Sabol homered to left with two outs making it 8-2.
Binghamton added two more in the eighth against Lendy Castillo and one in the ninth off of Paul Voelker for an 11-2 lead.
Gsellman (2-4) earned his second win of the year against the 'Wolves. He allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings.
Turley (0-3) took his third straight loss. He allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits with two walks and a strikeout in 5.1 innings.
The SeaWolves and Mets meet in the middle game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Cory Riordan (3-3, 4.70 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Casey Delgado (2-2, 4.79 ERA). Wednesday is AAA Wednesday. AAA members can present their card to save $2 off any regularly priced ticket.
