Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Red Wings starting pitcher Jason Wheeler worked eight shutout innings to guide Rochester to an easy 7-0 victory over the Indians on Monday at Victory Field in their series opener.

As part of the team's observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the Indians donned Indiana National Guard specialty jerseys that were auctioned off throughout the course of the game. Proceeds will be donated to the WGU Scholarships Fund for Indiana National Guard members.

Jason Rogers matched a season high three hits, his second three-hit effort in the last week.

Frank Duncan (1-2) made his fourth start of the season with Indianapolis (25-24), striking out eight in 4.1 innings. He received his second loss of the year, both coming after allowing just three earned runs.

Jason Wheeler (4-1) was the deserving winner for Rochester (29-22).

Jorge Polanco plated the Red Wings' first run in the third on a base hit that deflected off Duncan before heading to Gift Ngoepe at short.

Polanco added another RBI in the fifth on a lined single to center as Rochester scored two in the frame.

Kelvin Marte was nearly spotless in his 1.2 innings of relief, before the visitors plated four runs, one earned, against Kyle Lobstein in a four-run seventh.

The two teams will square off again on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Chad Kuhl (4-1, 1.03) and Jose Berrios (3-1, 1.61) will have a rematch of the May 26 tilt that went the Indians' way.
