Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Monte Harrison hit a two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to tie Monday's game with the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field. But, the Kernels scored in the bottom of the ninth to collect a walkoff win over the Rattlers for the second day in a row. The Kernels won the game 3-2.

Cedar Rapids (29-21) took the lead in the third inning with an unearned run. Jermaine Palacios reached on an error to start the inning and was erased on a force play after a grounder off the bat of Sean Miller. Luis Arraez reached on an infield single to move Miller to second. Wisconsin starter Jake Drossner got the second out on a strikeout, but LaMonte Wade singled to right to drive in Miller for a 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (24-27) had their best chances to score against Kernels starting pitcher Randy LeBlanc in the fourth and sixth innings. Blake Allemand, who had three hits on Monday and extended his hitting streak to eight games, doubled to lead off the fourth, but he was left stranded. He would double again in the sixth inning with one out. Luis Aviles followed with a sharp single to left to move his own hitting streak to fourteen games, but Allemand could only take third on the hit and both runners were left stranded.

The Kernels added an insurance run in the bottom of eighth inning against Conor Harber. Zander Wiel doubled with one out and took third on a single by AJ Murray. Harber got Nelson Molina to send a chopper back to the mound, but Harber's throw to second to start the inning-ending double play sailed into center to allow Wiel to score and the Kernels to go up 2-0.

LeBlanc turned the game over to Michael Cederoth in the top of the ninth inning and Cederoth retired the first two batters he faced with ease. Then, he walked Alan Sharkey to get the game to Harrison. The Wisconsin center fielder worked the count to 3-2 and sent a towering fly ball to left for a game-tying, two-out, two-run homer. The home run was the first of the season for Harrison.

David Lucroy entered the game for the Rattlers in the bottom of the ninth inning and gave up a hit to Sean Miller. A wild pitch allowed Miller to take second and Luis Arraez walked. Daniel Kihle was up to bunt and missed for strike one and Miller strayed too far from second base. Rattlers catcher Max McDowell threw to second, but Miller took off for third and made it easily. The next pitch went to the backstop and the Miller crossed the plate with the winning run.

LeBlanc allowed six hits, walked none and struck out six over eight shutout innings, but was denied his seventh win of the season.

On Sunday afternoon, the Rattlers tied the game after there were two outs and none on base in the top of the ninth inning only to see the Kernels win that game 9-8 on a walkoff error. Monday was the third walkoff loss suffered by the Rattlers on this road trip and they split the four-game series with the Kernels and are now 3-4 on the trip.

The Timber Rattlers begin a three-game series with the Peoria Chiefs Tuesday night at Dozer Park. Matt Garza of the Milwaukee Brewers will make the first start of his rehabilitation assignment for Wisconsin. The Chiefs plan on Junior Fernandez (4-3, 3.35) as their starter. Game time is 7:00pm.

The radio broadcast is on 1280 AM, WNAM starting with the pregame show at 6:40pm. The game is also available on the internet through IHeartRadio and TuneIn.
