Tacoma Rainiers News Release

METAIRIE, La. - The Tacoma Rainiers (30-20) and New Orleans Zephyrs (21-28) played to a 2-2 tie in a rain-shortened contest on Monday afternoon at Zephyr Field.

With the game knotted up at 2-2 and Rainiers right fielder Mike Baxter at the plate in the top of the sixth inning, a sudden rain storm caused a weather delay and eventually forced the game to be called. It marked the fourth tie game in Tacoma franchise history, and the first since 1985.

Rainiers starting pitcher Cody Martin worked the first 3.0 innings of the game, allowing two runs on three hits - including one home run allowed - with one strikeout. Casey Coleman pitched the final 2.0 frames out of the bullpen, keeping the Zephyrs scoreless on just one hit while striking out four.

Tacoma broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the second when Baxter hit his sixth home run of the season over the right field wall. The solo shot gave the Rainiers a 1-0 edge.

New Orleans struck for two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to quickly take the lead. Carlos Corporan laced a two-out double to right field and was followed by a two-run home run from Isaac Galloway, pushing the Zephyrs out in front 2-1.

Rainiers third baseman Zach Shank drew a one-out walk in the top of the third to set up an RBI triple from center fielder Daniel Robertson, tying the game at 2-2.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Paul Clemens worked the entirety of the shortened game, officially logging a complete game no decision.

The Rainiers return home to open a four-game set with the Salt Lake Bees tomorrow, Tuesday, May 31. Tacoma left-hander James Paxton (4-3, 3.97) will start opposite Salt Lake righty Kyle Kendrick (2-2, 5.45). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT.
