Fightins lose three straight for first time

The Reading Fightin Phils (33-18) suffered their first three-game losing streak of the 2016 on Monday as they lost 9-1 to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (23-26). The Fightin Phils also lost their second series of the season.

Dylan Cozens hit a RBI single off Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence in the top of the first to give Reading a 1-0 lead. New Hampshire answered back off Anthony Vasquez (6-3) in the bottom of the second by scoring five runs to take a 5-1 lead. The Fisher Cats tagged Vasquez for two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 7-1.

Vasquez left the game after 5 1/3 innings as he allowed seven runs off 10 hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Reinier Roibal retired the final two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Fisher Cats scored two runs off Roibal in the bottom of the seventh to take a 9-1 lead. Tom Windle pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Roibal.

Albright College alum and Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence (2-3) earned the win. Colt Hynes threw 1 1/3 innings in relief of Lawrence. Will Browning finished out the game for New Hampshire.

The Fightin Phils will continue their road trip to Hadlock Field to play the Portland Sea Dogs. First pitch is at 6:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98.5 and fightins.com at 5:30 pm.
