Birmingham Barons News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - Brandon Dixon piled on six RBIs against Birmingham Barons pitchers as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos posted a 12-5 victory to close out this week's five game series.

Jeremy Dowdy forced the Barons first run home to give Birmingham an early lead, drawing a walk that plated Eudy Pina in the first inning. Nick Basto, the next batter, deposited a double into left field that scored Courtney Hawkins and Trey Michalczewski for a brief 3-0 Barons edge.

From there, Blue Wahoos starter Amir Garrett settled in on the mound while Pensacola piled on Birmingham starter Blair Walters. Walters, who entered today with a streak of two straight wins, lasted only three innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits. Eight total runs crossed with Walters on the hill, as Birmingham committed a season-high five errors.

Brock Huntzinger could not contain the Blue Wahoos bats out of the bullpen, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out two. Robinson Leyer allowed a lone run while tying a season-high for relievers with six strikeouts in two innings of work.

Trailing 11-3, the Barons put together a pair of eighth inning runs, with Michalczewski tripling home Pina on a line drive to center field. Basto recorded his third RBI by scoring the Barons third baseman to make the game 11-5. Peter Tago closed out the pitching for Birmingham, allowing the game's final run as Birmingham took their third straight loss.

Tyler Danish starts a 10-game homestand at Regions Field Tuesday evening as the Barons start a series against the Chattanooga Lookouts with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Danish lost his lone start against Chattanooga this year despite allowing just two earned runs in over six innings pitched.
