Anderson â??Lights Out' in Rubber Match Win

LINCOLN, NE - Winnipeg Goldeyes starter Kyle Anderson pitched seven scoreless innings to help the Goldeyes take the rubber match of a three-game series 4-2 over the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.
"He was lights out," Goldeyes hitting coach Tom Vaeth said about Anderson after the game. "He gave us another quality start to finish up this road trip. I thought he did a really great job of pounding the ball early in the count. He did a really good job of staying away from the barrel.
"We did enough offensively today to win, and with Kyle doing so well, we luckily didn't have to do much offensively."
That Goldeyes offense opened up the scoring in the third, when Josh Romanski hit a sacrifice fly to score Adam Heisler from third. Three batters later, David Rohm extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-run extra-base hit to score Maikol Gonzalez and Reggie Abercrombie.
"He's a kid that likes to use the whole field," Vaeth said about Rohm. "Because he does that, he barrels a lot of balls, and when you barrel a lot of balls, some of them are going to find holes."
Both teams were held scoreless through the next four innings, during which Anderson retired 15 Saltdogs batters in a row, but Winnipeg's bats were back at it in the eighth. After Casio Grider drew a two- out walk, Tanner Murphy scored him on a ground rule RBI double to give the Goldeyes a 4-0 lead.
The Saltdogs responded in the bottom ninth, scoring on a two-out two-run home run from Rene Leveret, but the Goldeyes stayed on top to take the game 4-2 and the series 2-1.
Anderson (2-0, 0.67) threw 77 pitches and allowed only two hits through seven scoreless innings for the win, while Lincoln starter Shairon Martis (2-1, 2.50) allowed three runs on seven hits through six innings and suffered the loss. Cameron McVey (0-0, 0.00) pitched a scoreless eighth for the Goldeyes, and closer Jailen Peguero (1-1, 6.75) gave up the only two Saltdogs runs of the game.
The Goldeyes didn't commit a single error throughout the series, and Winnipeg's outfield defense combined for 13 total putouts on Sunday, including nine from Abercrombie.
With the win, the Goldeyes close their season-opening road trip with a 6-4 record. Right-hander Mikey O'Brien (2-0, 2.92) will start Winnipeg's home opener against the Sioux Falls Canaries on Monday night at 7, and left-hander Misael Siverio (1-0, 2.46) will start for the Canaries.
