May 29, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Chase Vallot drove in six runs with a homer, single and double as the Lexington Legends gained a split of a four-game series in Hagerstown with an 11-8 win over the Suns Sunday afternoon.

Samir Duenez had three runs batted in for Lexington, and Travis Maezes and Marten Gasparini also homered as part of a 15-hit attack, a new season high for the Legends. The 11-run output matched the Legends season high.

Matt Page drove in six runs for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown took the early lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning on a bases-loaded double by Page, but the Legends came back with five runs in the top of the fourth, all scoring after there were two outs and no one on base.

Maezes started the scoring with his sixth home run in 20 games with the Legends. Tanner Stanley followed with a double and D.J. Burt walked. An infield single by Roman Collins loaded the bases, and a triple by Duenez scored all three runners, putting the Legends in front 4-3. Duenez has 37 runs batted in for the season, second in the South Atlantic League behind David Thompson of Columbia, who has 40.

A single by Vallot brought Duenez home and the Legends led 5-3.

Vallot's three-run homer in the sixth, his eighth home run of the year, made the score 8-3. Vallot is tied for second in the league in homers behind Jose Pujols of Lakewood, who has nine.

Hagerstown came back with a run in the sixth on a double by Ryan Ripken and a single by Victor Robles. They scored another in the seventh on a two-out double by Jakson Reetz and a single by Page.

In the top of the eighth, Vallot delivered a two-out, two-run double after Stanley and Collins had singled earlier, making the score 10-5.

Gasparini's homer over the center field wall in the ninth, a blast estimated at 420 feet, gave the Legends their final run.

The Suns rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, two coming on a triple by Page, before Jake Kalish struck out Cody Dent with a man on to end the game.

Yunior Marte (3-2), who relieved starter Julio Pinto in the third inning, worked four and one-third innings and got the win. Hagerstown starter Pedro Avila (3-3) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends will open a six-game homestand Monday night against Greensboro. Game time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 7:05 p.m.
