Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits used two homeruns and a quality start from Kevin McCanna to defeat the Peoria Chiefs, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon in front of 3,239 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. McCanna allowed just three runs over six innings while Christian Correa and Aaron Mizell both knocked long balls in the contest. Quad Cities had a multi-homer game for the second time this season.

McCanna (2-2) picked up his second win of the season over a career-high six innings of work. The Rice University product struck out four while only walking one.

Peoria took an early lead over the Bandits in the second inning. Brian O'Keefe knocked a leadoff double and scored on a two-run homer from Chris Chinea, giving the Chiefs a 2-0 advantage.

The Bandits plated three runs to take the lead in the fourth. Connor Goedert got aboard with a leadoff double and was driven home on a double by Keach Ballard. Correa connected for his first homer of the season, a two-run blast, to put the Bandits ahead 3-2.

Peoria tied the game in the fifth. After Vaughn Bryan led off with a double and moved to third on an infield single, he scored on a passed ball to tie the game 4-4. Quad Cities answered in the bottom of the frame. Osvaldo Duarte doubled and with two outs Anthony Hermelyn laced an RBI-single to put the Bandits back on top 4-3.

The Bandits added insurance in the sixth inning. Mizell started the scoring with a solo-homer just over the right field wall. The homerun extended Mizell's season-long hitting streak to ten games. Myles Straw and Duarte extended the frame with two-out walks and Kyle Tucker drove them home with a two-run double, giving the River Bandits a 7-3 lead.

Sandy Alcantara (4-3) dropped the decision in a five-inning performance. The righty allowed four runs on six hits while collecting four strikeouts. The Bandits' Juan Carlos Santos collected his first save of the season in a three-inning relief appearance. Santos did not allow a run and struck out three in a one-hit effort.

The River Bandits look to take the series on Monday afternoon behind RHP Franklin Perez (0-1, 3.68). Peoria sends RHP Jake Woodford (3-3, 2.22) to mound in the 5:15 p.m. CT series finale. Jake Levy and Lance Ragland will have the call and the LLOYD Agencies Pregame Show starting at 5:00 p.m. on 1170 AM K-BOB in the Quad Cities, and on RiverBandits.com or the TuneIn app anywhere.
