Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power captured the series win over the Columbia Fireflies with a 3-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Bret Helton threw six shutout innings and Tito Polo launched a three-run home run to propel the Power.
Helton and Firefly starter P.J. Conlon traded four shutout innings until the fifth when the Power broke through. Logan Ratledge and John Bormann led off the frame with back-to-back singles. One batter later Tito Polo came up and drilled the first pitch from Conlon over the left field wall for a three run home run, giving the Power a 3-0 advantage. Polo's six home runs tie him for the team lead in home runs with Daniel Arribas.
Conlon (7-1) received his first loss of the year, giving up three runs and six hits across six innings. The three runs are the most Conlon's surrendered in his minor league career.
Helton picked up his second win of the year and his first since Opening Day in Charleston on April 14 against Lexington. The right-hander tossed six shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four. Helton has allowed just one run over twelve innings in his last two starts combined.
The Power bullpen shutout the Fireflies the rest of the way. Tanner Anderson allowed just two base runners on a pair of walks over two innings and Cesilio Pimentel notched his first save of the year working a 1-2-3 ninth to complete the 3-0-shutout win.
Mitchell Tolman, Logan Hill, Logan Ratledge and John Bormann all finished with two hits, with all three runs driven in on Polo's home run. West Virginia has now won two of its last three series and four of its last five games overall.
The Power welcome the Lakewood Blueclaws to Charleston for a three game series to close out the homestand. Dario Agrazal gets the start for the Power against 'Claws left hander Tyler Gilbert. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M at Appalachian Power Park.
