St. Lucie Mets News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Bradenton Marauders completed a four-game sweep of the St. Lucie Mets by winning Sunday's finale 5-2.

For the second straight game, the only runs the Mets scored came on a two-out, two-run home run by Kevin Taylor in the first inning.

Justin Masterson and Yeudy Garcia combined for 14 strikeouts and stranded 10 Mets on base. The 14 strikeouts are season high for St. Lucie.

Masterson, signed by the Pirates to a minor league contract in April, made his 2016 debut. He held the Mets to two hits over five innings. He struck out eight and walked three.

Garcia, in his first relief appearance, held the Mets off the scoreboard over the final four innings to get the save.

Taylor Gushue hit a two-run homer off of Mets starter Scarlyn Reyes in the fourth inning to put the Marauders ahead 3-2. Bradenton tacked on a sac fly in the seventh and Jordan Luplow clubbed a solo home run in the eighth to make it 5-2.

The Mets loaded the bases on a catcher's interference and two walks with two outs in the ninth. However, Garcia got Amed Rosario to line out sharply to center field to end the game.

Lednier Ricardo went 2 for 3 with a walk. The Mets only had five hits in the game.

Reyes held the Marauders to three runs in five innings. He walked four and a hit a batter.

The loss was the fourth in a row for the Mets, marking a season high. The Mets entered the series one game ahead of Bradenton for first place. They finished the series three games behind the Marauders in the standing. If the team's end up tied for first at the end of the first half, Bradenton will win the half based on their 7-2 head-to-head record vs. the Mets.

Next Up: The Mets (25-25, T-3rd) are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday at the Fort Myers Miracle (25-26, 5th). First pitch at Hammond Stadium is 7:05 p.m.
