Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

(PORT CHARLOTTE, FL) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs finished off a three-game weekend sweep of the Fort Myers Miracle as they posted a 5-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.

The host Stone Crabs jumped out on top in the second inning. Grant Kay, who had singled to center with one out, stole second and then advanced to third on a throwing error by Miracle catcher Brian Olson. Jace Conrad then singled to score Kay, and Charlotte led 1-0.

The Stone Crabs increased their lead to 3-0 one inning later. Thomas Milone reached on a ground-rule double to lead off the inning, took third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored as Andrew Velazquez reached on an error by first baseman Alex Real. Velazquez then stole 2nd base, went to third on a ground out, and scored the second run of the inning on a single by Justin Williams.

Charlotte added an unearned run in the fourth inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Jace Conrad lined a triple to left fielder, and when the relay throw from Miracle shortstop Engelb Vielma was off target, Conrad came across to score to give the hosts a 4-0 lead.

The Miracle spoiled the shutout efforts of Charlotte starter and winner Yonny Chirinos (4-0) in the seventh inning. Alex Real singled to left field with one out, went to third on a single off the bat of Chris Paul, and then scored on Logan Wade's ground out to second.

Kohl Stewart (3-2) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Miracle. He tossed six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, three of which were earned, while striking out three without allowing a walk.

The Miracle (25-26), who have an off day on Memorial Day Monday, will return to action on Tuesday night as they open up a seven-game homestand at Hammond Stadium with a 7:05 p.m. game against the St. Lucie Mets. Fans can listen to the broadcast of the game on www.miraclebaseball.com with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman. The MiracleBaseball.com pregame show begins at 6:45 p.m.
