Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 News Release

Whitecaps FC 2 are getting better every single week and this Sunday, May 29, they host Real Monarchs SLC in another fun day for the whole family at Thunderbird Stadium.

KICKOFF: 2 p.m. PT | FUN: Kids and 'Caps Children's Festival | LIVE BAND: Sm:)e

Here is what's in store on the pitch and around it. Tickets are available here.

WHITECAPS FC 2

Having played just nine matches so far this season, Whitecaps FC 2 have been proving that young players are capable of standing their ground in a tough USL season. This past week, the team managed a 1-1 draw against a daunting Saint Louis FC side, adding to their commanding undefeated record.

Credit for the team's current run of positive results goes not only to the team dynamic as a whole, but to some stellar individual performances across the pitch, including that of 23-year-old Brett Levis the last few matches. The Saskatoon native has registered two goals in the last three games: the first-half rocket against Saint Louis, and a goal off a rebound against LA Galaxy II. The feat is more impressive when you take into consideration that he has been playing as a fullback for the WFC2 side. The 23-year-old has appeared in all nine 'Caps matches, and is helping lead the team with his experience and vision going down the left flank.

The 'Caps goalkeepers have also been standing tall in net so far this season, allowing only 11 goals in nine matches. Together, the three of them have put together 29 saves and have a combined goals-against average of just 1.4 goals per match. On Wednesday, Spencer Richey earned his fifth start of the season and made some big saves to keep the 'Caps in the game. Getting his fingertips on a close shot from Saint Louis captain Chad Bond in the latter half of the match, Richey helped the 'Caps keep that undefeated streak alive.

REAL MONARCHS SLC

Real Monarchs SLC have been struggling to keep their momentum going this season, with wins few and far between through their first 10 matches. Yet, their recent 3-1 win against Orange County Blues FC proves they are still capable of a big win away from home. With that in mind, the 'Caps are in for a test on Sunday afternoon.

SLC also have a daunting line of attack, led by the offensive force of Ricardo Velazco. Appearing in eight of the side's 10 matches, Velazco leads the team with three goals and three assists. In their last win against Orange County, the Arizona native scored two goals and added one assist to his tally to lead his side. His incredible performance led him to a USL Team of the Week nomination alongside WFC2's Fatawu Safiu for Week 9. He will be one for the 'Caps to watch at Thunderbird on Sunday.

BEYOND THE BIG MATCH...

Sunday's game is more than just a soccer match; it is also a chance to come out and enjoy the Vancouver weather at the Kids and 'Caps Children's Festival! Aside from crowd favourites such as bubble soccer, face painting, and balloon art, bring your little ones to the match and enjoy a bouncy castle, carnival games, and a performance by youth band Sm:)e.

As usual, local food trucks The Dog House and Hungry Nomad will be on scene to fix the after-bouncy-castle hunger, and keep everyone full and in high spirits to cheer on WFC2!

Following Sunday's match, WFC2 will again face Real Monarchs SLC at Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday, June 4 at 7 p.m. The match also promises a little movie magic, with Footy and Film night! Stick around after the match for a showing of a 'Caps favourite film. Tickets for the match are available here.

This year, every Tier 1 'Caps Club MLS membership includes three open tickets to WFC2 matches. Members can select their matches and theme days online through Account Manager. Information on theme days is available at whitecapsfc.com/wfc2/themedays.
