Pitching Strong Again as San Antonio Wins Rubber Game over Northwest Arkansas

May 26, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
San Antonio Missions News Release

A terrific start by Bryce Morrow and timely hitting from Nick Schulz guided San Antonio to a 3-1 win and series victory over Northwest Arkansas Thursday night at Wolff Stadium.

Morrow entered Thursday night's start in search of his first win of the season. The veteran right-hander had struggled since rejoining the club in late April, but on Thursday reverted back to his old reliable self.

Morrow went a season-high, tying six innings, allowing just one run on three hits and one walk, while fanning three. The former Central Michigan University star threw 64 of his 93 pitches for strikes. Northwest Arkansas' only tally against Morrow (1-6) came in the fourth when Frank Schwindel tied the game at one with a sacrifice fly to center.

San Antonio plated an early run against southpaw Eric Skoglund thanks to a Jose Rondon solo homer to left in the bottom of the first. It was Rondon's third dinger of the season.

The Missions broke the one-all tie in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Torres kept the inning alive with a two-out double to right center off Skoglund (2-2). Northwest Arkansas opted to bring in another lefty, Tim Hill, to face Nick Schulz, who promptly drove in Torres with a single to right.

Schulz came through again in the eighth against lefty Eric Stout, putting the game on ice with another two-out, RBI single.

Jason Jester worked around a Schwindel one-out double in the ninth to notch his seventh save of the season.

The series victory was San Antonio's fourth of the season.

San Antonio (15-31) resumes its six-game homestand Friday with the first of three against the Arkansas Travelers (19-28). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The first 1,500 fans to enter Wolff Stadium will receive a free Missions Jersey Lunch Bag courtesy of University Health System. Luis Diaz (2-4) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Travs counter with fellow righty Jordan Kipper (4-2, 3.63).
