Bees Taken Down by Kernels in Finale

(Burlington-IA) The Cedar Rapids Kernels (27-19) scored early and scored often in their 12-2 win over the Burlington Bees (20-26) on Thursday night at Community Field in Burlington.

Cedar Rapids jumped on the Bees early on Thursday evening. After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Kernels batted nine men in the top of the second inning, scoring four runs, upping the Kernels lead to 5-0. The Kernels went on to do the exact same thing, batting nine batters in the third inning, scoring four more runs, extending their lead to 9-0. Sean Miller made it 10-0 with a RBI triple in the top of the fourth. The inning was capped off with a Daniel Kihle RBI double, upping the lead to 11-0.

The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brendon Sanger started the innng with a walk and then moved to second with one out after Alex Abbott was hit by a pitch. Juan Moreno then shot a single to right, scoring Sanger, making the score 11-1.

With two outs in the eighth, Jake Yacinich worked a walk and then moved to second on a Jared Foster single. Jared Walsh drove in the Bees second run of the game, blooping a single to left, scoring Yacinich, extending the hitting streak to 11 games.

Cedar Rapids added one more run in the top of the ninth as the Bees fell by the score of 12-2. Kernels starter Fernando Romero (2-0) earned the win while Ronnie Glenn (1-4) was charged with the loss. The Bees welcome in the Clinton LumberKings Friday night for game one of a three game series at 6:30. Jose Rodriguez makes the start for the Bees against Zack Littell for the LumberKings.
