Match Preview: City Islanders Get Second Go at FC Cincinnati Saturday
May 26, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA - City Islanders FC will have very little time between games as they travel to Cincinnati FC this Saturday, May 28 for their third game in less than a week.
In the first two games of the week City was able to find quality form early to take a 2-0 lead in both games before the end of the first 45 minutes. They held the lead by playing better on defense later in games, something they struggled with earlier in the season.
This will be the second meeting all time between the two teams and head coach Bill Becher knows the importance of getting the two big wins at home before heading on the road.
"There are times you get on streaks it does help going into the next games, so hopefully we can take the momentum from this one on to Cincinnati," Becher said.
City will need to channel that momentum if they want to come out of the Buckeye state with a positive result because Cincinnati has only lost two games all year. They are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak heading into Saturday's game.
One player who made his name known in the two games in Lancaster is Aaron Wheeler who scored back-to-back goal just minutes apart against Bethlehem and the game winner against Toronto FC II. His three goals in two game lead the Islanders to their first hot streak of the season.
"Everything is just coming together at the right time and I'm just happy to contribute to the team's success. Two wins in a row in three days is a great start for us getting on a roll," said Wheeler.
The last matchup between these Eastern Conference foes came at FNB Field less than a month a go. City looked to have the match under control when they took a 1-0 lead deep into the second half, but former Union loanee Jimmy McLaughlin took a strike and knotted the game up for in the 80th minute.
After leaving Cincinnati the Islanders will stay on the road for their next three tilts and will not see friendly soil until Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. when they take on FC Montreal at FNB Field.
