Arkansas Travelers News Release
Corpus Christi, TX - The Corpus Christi Hooks held off the Arkansas Travelers and won 2-1 on Wednesday night at Whataburger Field.
Astros Major Leaguer on Rehab OF Carlos Gomez finished with three outfield assists, including two at home plate with the tying run being thrown out both times, a home run which proved to be the difference in the game, and a stellar diving catch.
Arkansas had the tying run at third four times in the game, including the ninth inning, but could not get over the hump.
Hooks starter RHP Keegan Yuhl (W, 3-1) worked seven scoreless innings and allowed just four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
RHP Brendan McCurry (S, 9) pitched multiple innings for a second straight night and earned the save.
Travs starter RHP Victor Alcantara (L, 1-3) allowed two solo home runs and seven total hits over five innings.
LF Derek Fisher got the Hooks on the board in the first with a home run, the Minor League-leading 58th home run on the season for Corpus Christi.
Gomez' home run (the 59th) was blasted in the fifth.
Trailing 2-0 in the eighth, Arkansas loaded the bases with one out. CF Chad Hinshaw was hit by RHP David Schmidt pitch to make it 2-1. DH Eric Aguilera then flied a ball to center field. Gomez made the catch and threw out 1B Alex Yarbrough at the plate to end the inning.
Yarbrough finished 2-for-4 in the game, the lone multi-hit game for the Travs.
With the loss, Arkansas has now dropped three straight games and falls to 18-28 on the season.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series on Thursday night at Whataburger Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
