RubberDucks Jump out Early, Cruise to 13-6 Win

Akron's bats compiled nine runs over the first three innings and 17 hits in the game as the RubberDucks took game three of a four-game series against the Altoona Curve Wednesday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Turning Point
After the two teams traded three-run first innings, the Akron RubberDucks (33-12) ripped off another three runs Ii the second off Curve starter Tyler Eppler to open up a 6-3 lead that would not be relinquished. That inning, Joe Sever and Taylor Murphy singled and Ivan Castillo walked to load the bases. Todd Hankins followed with an RBI singled and Eric Haase added a sacrifice fly to center field before Ivan Castillo stole home on the back end of a double steal to cap off the rally.
Winging It
D.J. Brown settled down after a troublesome first inning to give the "Ducks a solid outing. After three runs and four hits in the first, Brown settled in and allowed three hits and no runs over his next five innings of work. Overall, the right-hander worked six innings allowing three runs and seven hits while striking out eight and walking none. Justin Brantley took over the seventh and eighth and allowed one run, and J.P Feyereisen gave up two runs in the ninth before closing out the victory for Akron.
Duck Tales
Todd Hankins was 4-for-5 out of the leadoff spot with four RBI, a double, a triple and a run scored. He stroked a two-run triple to center in the fifth. He now has 23 RBI on the season. Joe Sever added a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and two runs scored. Ivan Castillo hit in the ninth spot and went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, including one on a steal of home.
Notebook
The RubberDucks scored three runs and each of the first three innings to build a 9-3 lead on Curve starter Tyler Eppler (2-3)...Akron has now won 15 of their last 18 games...The "Ducks own the best record among all teams in the MLB and MiLB (33-12)... The Curve (24-20) have lost seven of nine games against the RubberDucks this season and fell to 8.5 games behind Akron in the EL West... Time of game: 2:50...Attendance: 5088.
On Deck
The RubberDucks and Curve will close out their four-game series Thursday morning at 10:35 a.m. LHP Shawn Morimando is the announced starter for Akron, and RHP David Whitehead is expected to get the ball for the Curve. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
