Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, will hold a special ceremony to dedicate a seat at The Hangar as the POW/MIA Seat of Honor this Friday. The ceremony will be conducted just prior to the 6:35 p.m. game.
The POW/MIA Seat of Honor will remain perpetually unoccupied as a reminder of the nearly 92,000 Americans who have gone missing or been taken prisoners of war while serving their country.
"We are honored to install this seat at The Hangar as a reminder that we will never forget those that were left behind," said JetHawks General Manager Will Thornhill. "This seat will never be sat in, but it will never be empty."
Active-duty military and veterans will help dedicate the seat along with special guests including Congressman Steve Knight, Assemblyman Tom Lackey, student representatives from Operation All The Way Home (O.A.T.H.) and representative from the City of Lancaster.
The POW/MIA Seat of Honor will be located at the back of Section 101 and will feature a permanent plaque to commemorate all of the United States Military's POWs and MIAs. The plaque will include the official POW/MIA logo.
The POW/MIA Seat of Honor unveiling will mark the official start of the JetHawks' annual Military Appreciation Weekend. The festivities will include a military-themed postgame fireworks show on Friday, the JetHawks 2nd-Generation Cap Giveaway on Saturday (6:05 p.m.), the weekly Military Appreciation Sunday (2:05 p.m.) and a special 2:05 p.m. game on Memorial Day. All active-duty and retired military will receive free admission for Monday's game.
The JetHawks host the division-rival High Desert Mavericks for a four-game series during Military Appreciation Weekend.
