NEWS AND NOTES

Who's Hot: With a solo homer last night against West Michigan, 3B Kevin Padlo has hit roundtrippers in back-to-back games and now three homers in his last four games played overall. Padlo is tied for the team-lead in homers with Brett Sullivan, as they each have seven this year.

Day Dreaming: With a 9-7 win on Sunday afternoon against the Dayton Dragons, the Hot Rods improved to 9-4 during day games this season compared to just 15-16 during game played in the evening.

Double Dips: On Saturday, the Hot Rods were swept by the Dayton Dragons in their second doubleheader of the season. They swept their first one, on 5/13, against the Lake County Captains at Bowling Green Ballpark. In 2015, the Hot Rods were 3-5 in doubleheaders in 2015.

The Bats are Back: After a stretch where the Hot Rods lost six of seven games and scored just eight runs over those final five games, the Hot Rods offense broke out for 19 runs combined in the final two games of their series at Dayton. Bowling Green has scored 10 or more runs in six games this year. Overall, the Hot Rods are leading the Midwest League with 32 homers, hitting 24 of them in the month of May (which is as many homers as any MDW team has hit all year).

Home Sweet Home: After a seven-game roadtrip that the Hot Rods finished with a 3-4 record but won the final two games, they are back in Southcentral Kentucky for the next week, where they are 13-7 this season. The Hot Rods are 4-0-2 in six home series this year.

Vs. West Michigan: The Hot Rods and Whitecaps are facing against each other for the second time this season, as they faced each other in a three-game set at Fifth Third Field last week. Overall, the Hot Rods are 1-3 against the Whitecaps, hitting just .175 and scoring just 9 runs in those four games. In the four games, Bowling Green has half the hits (21) that West Michigan has (42).

Promotion Motion: Last weekend, both LHP Jose Alvarado and RHP Yonny Chirinos were promoted to High-A Port Charlotte. Chirinos, who started the season in Port Charlotte, made four appearances with the Hot Rods, going 2-0 with a 2.81 and did not give up an earned run in his final 2 starts (10 IP). Alvarado, who started the season with Bowling Green, was 2-0 with a 1.46 ERA in 10 games with the Hot Rods while striking out 34 batters in 24.2 innings of work. Alvarado and Chirinos join RHP Ian Gibaut as the three Hot Rods players to be promoted to a higher level this year.

Transactions: On Saturday, OF Angel Moreno was activated from the disabled list, as C Danny De La Calle was sent to extended spring. Moreno is the second outfielder to be activated from the disabled list in the last week, Joe McCarthy last Saturday. McCarthy, who had been sidelined since 4/27, hit .327 with 12 RBI in 15 games prior to going on the DL. Including Moreno and McCarthy, three other Hot Rods players have been placed on the disabled list this year (Alexis Tapia, Angel Yepez and Cameron Varga). They have been replaced by De La Calle, RHP Armando Bastardo and RHP Tyler Brashears and RHP Yoel Espinal.
