Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg High School Football League today announced that Winnipeg Blue Bombers President & CEO Wade Miller and Gil Bramwell will be honoured at this weekend's 16th Annual Senior Bowl as guest coaches due to their achievements in football and contributions to the league. Each year, the WHSFL selects two members of their Hall of Fame to honour at their Senior Bowl game, which showcases the best graduating high school football players from across Manitoba and western Ontario.
Gil Bramwell: Legendary University of Manitoba Bisons linebacker and two-time Vanier Cup Champion and MVP. Bramwell launched the Oak Park Raiders football program in 1991 and won four total WHSFL Championships. Under his guidance, the team went on a 31-game winning streak and won three titles in a row. Bramwell retired as a coach 2002 and as a teacher 2003.
Wade Miller: Former Sturgeon Heights star who played fullback and linebacker, and went on to be a star middle linebacker with the University of Manitoba Bisons program (1990-1994). Miller was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1995 in the 4th round, and became an 11-year fixture with the Bombers as a fullback and special teams demon. A two time Eastern Division All-Star, Miller remains the CFL's leading special teams tackler (184). Miller also shares the record for most special teams tackles in a season with 37, a mark he achieved in 1999.
Team Bramwell and Team Miller will compete for the Gerry James trophy in the 16th Annual Senior Bowl at Investors Group Field on Saturday, May 28that 1:00pm.
