Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks jumped out to an 8-1 lead early and held off a late rally by the Stockton Ports to take the series opener on Tuesday night at The Hangar, 11-9.

After Jose Brizuela, the second batter of the game, hit a solo home run off JetHawks starter Brock Dykxhoorn, Lancaster took advantage of three errors by the Ports and put up six runs in the bottom of the first. The first seven batters reached for Lancaster in the frame.

The JetHawks put up single runs in the third and fourth on a sacrifice fly by Jamie Ritchie and a solo home run by Jason Martin, his fourth of the season. It tied him for the team lead with Garrett Stubbs and the recently called up Nick Tanielu. Martin added an RBI double later in the game. Ritchie drove in a pair of runs on the night.

Stockton put up three unearned runs in the fourth to cut the Lancaster lead to 8-4. The big blow was a two-run double by Brizuela. The JetHawks made it 10-4 heading to the seventh inning, but the Ports got back into the game with a big five-run frame.

Only one of the five runs was earned. Argenis Raga delivered a two-run single and Iolana Akau came through with a two-run double. Jacob Dorris entered the game with two out and the tying run at second. The right-hander was able to strike out Melvin Merzedes looking to end the inning. He went out to close out the game and earn his first save of the season, striking out five in 2.1 innings.

Dykxhoorn (4-1) picked up the win for the JetHawks. The right-hander struck out six over five innings and allowed just one earned run. Of the 20 total runs scored in the game, only eight were earned.

The JetHawks (20-23) and Ports (18-27) continue their three-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Elieser Hernandez (1-3) will start for Lancaster against Daniel Gossett (3-1). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
