Carroll Promoted to Chicago, Avila Begins Rehab Assignment

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - In addition to roster moves announced earlier today, RHP Scott Carroll was recalled to the Chicago White Sox becoming the eighth player this season to go from Charlotte to Chicago. In another roster move, catcher Alex Avila, who is currently on Chicago's disabled list, will begin a Major League Baseball rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights starting today. The Knights open a three-game series against the Gwinnett Braves from Coolray Field tonight at 7:05 p.m. Charlotte's roster now consists of 24 active players.

Carroll, 31, is 0-1 with a 12.27 ERA in three games (3.2 IP) with the Knights this season. Along with Carroll, the Knights have sent RHP Erik Johnson (April 19 & May 5), catcher Kevan Smith (April 24), RHP Miguel Gonzalez (April 25), catcher Hector Sanchez (April 26), RHP Daniel Webb (April 27), infielder Carlos Sanchez (April 28), and RHP Tommy Kahnle (April 29 & May 5) to the White Sox this year.

Avila, 29, was placed on Chicago's disabled list on April 24 with a strained right hamstring. He is hitting .214 (6-for-28) in 10 games with the White Sox this season. He signed with the White Sox as a free agent on December 4, 2015.
