Cougars Make Flurry of Roster Moves

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, have announced a flurry of roster moves leading up to and throughout their current homestand.

Beginning on Saturday, April 30 infielder Robelys Reyes was placed on the disabled list while right-handed pitcher Bo Takahashi was transferred from Advanced-A Visalia. Reyes was batting .341 with 14 hits, three RBI and five runs scored in 10 games with the Cougars this season. Takahashi (Non-drafted FA, 2014) had posted a record of 1-0 in two games with a 4.00 ERA and eight strikeouts for Visalia. He got his first action with the Cougars on Tuesday, May 3 pitching 3.1 innings in relief while allowing just three hits with one strikeout.

On Sunday, May 1 the Cougars placed outfielder Matt McPhearson on the disabled list while outfielder Quinnton Mack joined the club from the Diamondbacks spring training complex in Arizona. McPhearson is leading the Cougars with eight stolen bases this season, while posting a .296 batting average including eight hits and four runs scored with two RBIs in ten games. Mack (35th round, 2015) who spent time with the Cougars and Hillsboro Hops during the 2015 season batted .176 with 18 hits, 12 runs and nine RBI.

Right-handed pitcher Brody Greer was released from the team on Tuesday, May 3 with infielder Didimo Bracho joining the club from the D-backs spring training complex. Appearing in six games for the Cougars this season, Greer departs the Arizona system after four years. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in July of 2013, the South Carolina native first pitched for the AZL D-backs (Rookie, Arizona) before spending the 2014 season with the Missoula Osprey (Rookie, Pioneer League). In 25 games out of the bullpen he posted a record of 1-2 with a 4.94 ERA including 37 strikeouts over 27.1 innings pitched. As a member of the Hillsboro Hops (Class A-Short, Northwest League) in 2015 he fanned 51 opponents in 32.2 innings pitched with a record of 1-1 and a 0.83 ERA. During his time with Kane County, he went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 8.2 innings pitched. Bracho (Non-drafted FA, 2014) made his Cougars debut on Wednesday, May 4 in a 4-0 shutout of the Lake County Captains. He's in search of his first hit for the Cougars as they take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps in a 6:30 p.m. game tonight at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

On Wednesday, May 4 the Cougars made four corresponding moves as catcher Luke Lowery was transferred to extended spring training while catcher Eduardo de Oleo was activated from the disabled list. Left-handed pitcher Jared Miller was promoted to Advanced-A Visalia with right-handed pitcher Ryan Burr joining the club from the D-backs spring training complex.

Lowery was batting .099 with seven hits, four runs and five RBI in 20 games for the Cougars. De Oleo (Rule 5 Draft, 2015) spent time with Charleston and Staten Island last season as a member of the Yankees organization posting a .237 batting average with 46 hits, 21 runs and 20 RBI.

Before his promotion to Visalia, Miller had seen action in nine games for the Cougars out of the bullpen. In 14.1 innings pitched he struck out 21 batters allowing just four hits against while holding the opposition to a 0.82 batting average. Burr (5th round, 2015) spent time with both Kane County and Hillsboro last season, going a perfect 4-0 over 26 games with a 1.06 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 34.0 innings pitched. He held opponents to a .160 batting average allowing just 19 hits and four runs against.
