Three Former Stars to Play Internationally

Lincoln, Neb. - Three Stars alumni are set to participate in the 2016 IIHF World Championship beginning on May 6 in Russia.

Brandon Bochenski (Kazakhstan), Ralfs Freibergs (Latvia) and Linus Klasen (Sweden) will represent their respective countries in the 16-team tournament.

Bochenski recently attained dual citizenship, enabling the American-born forward to play for Kazakhstan. He has spent the last six seasons with Barys Astana of the KHL where he's posted 319 points in 311 games.

Prior to joining Barys Astana, Bochenski spent parts of five seasons in the NHL. He had 47 goals and 33 assists with the Stars from 2000-2001.

This will mark Bochenski's second trip to the World Championship as he represented Team USA in 2007.

Freibergs will represent Latvia for the eighth time in his career and second time in the World Championship. The defenseman played last season with the Toldeo Walleye of the ECHL, registering 29 points in 61 games. He had 43 points in 60 games with the Stars during the 2011-2012 season.

Linus Klasen will represent Sweden for the 9th time in his career and second time in the World Championship. He had 49 points in 49 games with HC Lugano in the NLA. The forward had 16 points in 26 games for the Stars from 2004-2005.
