Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SAN ANTONIO - A five-run sixth inning made a big difference for the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, in an 11-4 victory over the San Antonio Missions Thursday night at Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium.
The Riders (20-6) sent eight batters to the plate in the sixth and collected five hits facing Rafael De Paula out of the bullpen for San Antonio (9-18). Garrett Weber and Lewis Brinson had back-to-back RBI singles, Ryan Cordell plated two runs with a triple, and Alex Burg capped off the big inning with a sacrifice fly to left.
After San Antonio responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to chase Riders starter Frank Lopez (3-0) from the game, the Riders bullpen shut down the Missions offense. Jose Leclerc struck out the side in the sixth and fanned two more batters in the seventh. Then, Jose Valdespina retired the Missions in order in the final two frames, as the two relievers set down 12 consecutive batters to finish the game.
Frisco scored in four of the first five frames against Bryce Morrow (0-3). The runs came home on a sacrifice fly by Cordell and RBI doubles by Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Burg, and Ronald Guzman.
Guzman and Preston Beck added to the Riders' lead with solo home runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. It was Guzman's fourth long ball of the year and Beck's second, his first since the Riders' home opener on April 14.
It was the highest run total in a game this year, and the Riders also tied a season-high mark in hits with 15. Kiner-Falefa led the team with four hits in six trips to the plate. Five different players had multi-hit games, four scored two runs, and three had multiple RBI.
With the victory, the Riders clinched the series victory and improve to 7-0 against San Antonio this season. Frisco has won 10 straight games over the Missions dating back to last year.
The Riders will wrap up their four-game series in San Antonio Friday at 7:05 p.m. Connor Sadzeck (3-0, 2.93 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for Frisco against Luis Diaz (2-2, 5.72 ERA) for the Missions. Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the RoughRiders will return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for four games against the Midland RockHounds. Saturday night will also be Paint the Park Pink Night.
