Sea Dogs Finally End B-Mets' Streak, Win 2-1

Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (9-18) struck for two runs in the seventh inning and held on to defeat the Binghamton Mets (13-11) 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The win ends a streak of 14 straight losses to the B-Mets at Hadlock dating back to September 5, 2014.

Both teams scored their runs in the seventh inning. After a bunt single by Victor Cruzado (1-4, R), he was able to advance to third after a groundout and an infield single. Cruzado then came around to score the game's first run on a wild pitch by Simon Mercedes (W, 2-2) to give Binghamton a 1-0 lead.

Portland answered right back in the bottom of the seventh. Tim Roberson (3-4, 2B, R) doubled off Rainy Lara (L, 2-3) to lead off the inning, then Rainel Rosario (1-3, 2B, RBI) doubled to left center to score Roberson and tie the game. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Tzu-Wei Lin (1-3, RBI) delivered the game-winning RBI single to score pinch-runner Henry Ramos (0-1, R) and put the Sea Dogs ahead 2-1.

Aaron Wilkerson received no decision, but worked six scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while walking one and striking out seven. It was Wilkerson's third scoreless outing of the season. Lara allowed two earned runs in 6+ innings on seven hits, walking one and striking out three. Mercedes was able to pitch out of jams in the seventh and eighth innings, stranding three runners in two frames. Chandler Shepherd earned his third save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Sea Dogs hit the road and open up a three-game series tomorrow night in Reading against the Fightin Phils, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. RHP Keith Couch makes his first start for the Sea Dogs this season, while RHP Ricardo Pinto (0-1, 4.28) is scheduled to start for Reading. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI US Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:45 PM.
