Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders fell to the host Buffalo Bisons on a chilly Monday evening, 5-3. The RailRiders have lost three in a row and nine of their last 13. The Bisons have claimed four of the clubs' five meetings this year.

WHO KNEW?: The damage came from unexpected sources. Buffalo's bottom four hitters: Junior Lake, A.J. Jimenez, David Adams and Jio Mier; entered the game hitting .163, .172, .196 and .158 respectively. The foursome went a combined 4-for-12 with three run-scoring extra-base hits, four RBIs, three walks and two runs scored.

THE TOTAL PACKAGE: Eddy Rodriguez's second home run of the season was also his second in as many games played. He went deep off of Rochester's Taylor Rogers in game two of Friday's doubleheader at Frontier Field. Rodriguez finished Monday's game 2-for-3 with a walk.

R&R: Rob Refsnyder entered the road trip in a 4-for-30 funk with no RBIs over his prior eight games. He posted a pair of hits including a double and a run scored last night. On the road trip, he has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with a walk and five runs scored. He has hit safely in seven straight games, lifting his average by 45 points (.190-.235). His double on Monday made for his third extra-base hit of the season and his first since April 12 at Pawtucket. Tonight he will play right field for the first time since his first tour of duty with SWB in 2014.

DUAL THREAT: Catcher Gary Sanchez leads the IL in doubles and ranks second with 11 extra-base hits: eight doubles, one triple, two homers. He paces the IL's catchers with 152 total fielding chances and no errors. He also leads the loop's backstops with 144 putouts. When he's been behind the plate, opposing base stealers have been caught six times in 12 attempts (.500), making him one of three ranked IL catchers at 50% or better.

PARM CHARM: Former Red Wing Chris Parmelee (2012-14) started the year 2-for-26 (.077) with 10 strikeouts. He has since gone 13-for-35 (.371) with five extra-base hits and five RBIs over 10 games.

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMIN: Ben Gamel, last season's IL Rookie of the Year, owns a .305 average and a team-high seven stolen bases in 21 games played. Over his last 12 games, the usual leadoff man has gone 16-for-44 (.364) with four steals and nine runs scored.

OFF THE RAILS: Since coming off the DL, Cesar Puello has gone 5-for-11...Donovan Solano went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored...Over his last nine games, he has gone 14-for-35 (.400)...After the game, Casey Kotchman's third-inning reach of first was changed from a Pete Kozma error to a run-scoring hit...It added a third earned run to starter Luis Cessa...Before the game, the New York Yankees announced that infielder Deibinson Romero had been activated off of the SWB disabled list and utility man Jose Rosario was sent to Double-A Trenton...Tonight the RailRiders attempt to avoid a season-worst fourth straight road loss...The 2015 squad lost a season-worst six straight on the road from Aug. 15-29 (two at Rochester; three-game sweep at Pawtucket; series-opening loss at Buffalo).

IT GETS THROUGH BUCKNER!: Buffalo pitching coach Bob Stanley was ejected by home-plate umpire Chris Segal in the eighth inning. Stanley was a two-time All-Star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. The former Kearny H.S. (N.J.) star is perhaps best known for throwing a wild pitch in the 10th inning of Game 6 of the 1986 World Series between Boston and the New York Mets. The wild toss allowed Kevin Mitchell to score from third and sent Ray Knight to second base with Mookie Wilson batting. Down to his final strike, Wilson then sent the "little roller" through the legs of Bill Buckner at first base and Knight scored for the wild walk-off win that forced Game 7.
