New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Dwight Smith Jr. drove in two runs with a double, but the Fisher Cats late rally stalled in a 3-2 loss to Reading on Monday at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Reading (15-9) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Angelo Mora doubled and scored on a single by Rhys Hoskins, who extended his hit streak to a league best 19 games.
The Fightin Phils also tacked on single runs in the third and fourth frames. K.C. Serna doubled to start the third and scored on a single by Roman Quinn. Dylan Cozens doubled in the fourth, stole third, and scored on a groundout to make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ian Parmley bunted for a single and Jorge Flores reached on a two base error. Smith Jr. delivered the run scoring double off reliever Hoby Milner.
New Hampshire (8-14) threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning after Ian Parmley singled off Reading closer Edubray Ramos, but he was thrown out trying to steal to end the game.
Anthony Vasquez improved to 5-0 for the Fightin Phils, allowing two hits and two unearned runs. He walked two and matched a career-high with nine strikeouts.
John Anderson (1-3) was the hard luck loser for the Fisher Cats, matching his career best by working seven innings and allowing just three runs on six hits. He struck out six batters.
The homestand continues on Tuesday at Northeast Delta Stadium. The Fisher Cats continue the four-game series with the Reading Fightin Phils. Game time is 5:35pm and we're mixing it up in the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill as members of local chambers are invited to join us and get to know each other at the ballpark. The Chamber Mixer is sponsored by TD Bank and FairPoint Communications.
The Fisher Cats will turn to RHP Casey Lawrence (0-1, 1.29) on Tuesday against Reading RHP Anthony Vasquez (4-0, 1.95). Coverage with Tyler Murray and Bob Lipman begins at 5:15 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
