Playoffs Return to Utah Wednesday to Continue Second Round

The Situation

The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center at nearly a mile high in elevation and 4,305 feet above sea level to host the Fort Wayne Komets looking to climb out of a 2-0 hole.

The Series So Far

The Grizzlies have either been tied or within one goal in the third period in both games so far as they have been unable to finish the 60 minutes with a win.

Last Time Komets Played In Utah

Utah beat Fort Wayne 5-4 on January 30, 1999 the last time the Komets visited Utah. Utah is 4-1 at home all time against the Komets and 3-0 at Maverik Center.

High Scoring Teams

Utah leads the ECHL playoffs averaging 4.13 goals-per-game, the Komets are second averaging 3.78 goals-per-game. Utah has scored seven goals twice in the playoffs. Fort Wayne has scored eight goals once in a game.

Offensively

Utah has scored three or more goals in seven of eight playoff games so far and four or more goals in four of eight games. The Grizzlies have seven combined goals in the first two games against Fort Wayne and goaltender Pat Nagle.

Leading the League

Ryan Hayes (three goals, eight assists) and Barry Almeida (five goals, six assists) are tied for the ECHL playoff lead in scoring with 11 points. Charlie Sarault leads the league with seven goals.

Syner, Hayes and Almeida

Barry Almeida (four goals, five assists), Ryan Hayes (four goals, five assists) and T.J. Syner (three goals, four assists) are three of the top four leading scorers on both sides so far in the series as they have combined for nine goals and 14 assists. All three players have at least two points in the first two games.

Six Game Scoring Streak

Ryan Hayes has a six-game scoring streak entering Wednesday with three goals and eight assists for 11 points in six games. Hayes started the playoffs last year with a seven-game scoring streak and also had a seven-game scoring streak with Stockton in the playoffs in 2013.

More Streaks

A goal for Barry Almeida in three-straight games currently leads the ECHL, while Ryan Hayes' six-game assist streak also is the longest streak in the league.

Looking For Good Starts

Utah has given up five of the ten goals so far in the first period and four goals in the first 3:23 of the contest in the first two games. Utah has outscored the Komets 7-6 after the first 3:23.

Special Teams

Utah has outscored Fort Wayne 3-1 on the power-play and 4-2 on special teams in the series with each team scoring a shorthanded goal. Utah is 3-12 on the power-play and 8-9 on the penalty-kill in the series as they have drawn 12 of 21 power-plays. Fort Wayne had killed 34-straight penalties before the start of the Utah series and ranked second in the league on the power-play after round one.

Called-Up

Goaltender Ryan Faragher was called-up following Friday's game to Anaheim's AHL affiliate in San Diego.

Hot At Home

Goaltender Mark Owuya is 4-1-0-1 in his starts at Maverik Center this year.

Operation Lifesaver presents Grizzlies playoff broadcasts in HD on KMYU TV which will televise Wednesday's contest with "Voice of the Grizzlies" Adrian Denny and KUTV Talkin' Sports Adam Mikulich providing the play-by-play and color commentary. KMYU can be seen on channel 12 on satellite, channel 22 on cable and 2.2 Over-The-Air.

Tickets for the series are on sale now at UtahGrizzlies.com, Maverik Center Box Office and any Smith's Tix Location. With every ticket purchased, fans will receive a Utah Grizzlies Playoff Rally Towel while supplies last.
