Lexington Legends News Release
Yeyson Yrizarri had two hits and three runs batted in as the Hickory Crawdads took an 8-4 win over the Lexington Legends Monday in Hickory.
The Legends moved in front in the first inning when D.J. Burt led off the game with a single, advanced to third on a single by Marten Gasparini and scored on a ground out by Samir Duenez.
Hickory answered with two runs in the bottom of the first. Singles by Chris Garia and Eric Jenkins put runners at first and third. After Jenkins stole second, Dylan Moore reached first on a fielder's choice, leaving the bases loaded. Garia scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Sanchez as Jenkins moved to third and Moore to second. Jenkins came home on a ground out by Yrizarri, giving Hickory a 2-1 lead.
Burt reached base on an error to start the third for Lexington. He stole and second and third, and after Gasparini walked, Burt scored on a single by Duenez. Duenez was picked off at first, but Gasparini scored on a double by Chase Vallot. Ben Johnson's single scored Vallot, and the Legends led 4-2.
The Crawdads scored a run in the third, and Jose Almonte's leadoff homer in the bottom of the fourth tied the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, Moore walked and went to third on a double by Sanchez. Chuck Moorman's single scored Moore with the go-ahead run, and Sanchez later scored on a throwing error by Burt, the second baseman.
Yrizarri drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the seventh, and Moore singled home Jenkins in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Tyler Davis (2-0) who relieved starter Brett Martin in the fourth inning, worked two and one-third innings and picked up the win. He struck out five batters and walked none.
Legends starter Emilio Ogando (2-2), who pitched the first four and two-thirds innings, was the losing pitcher.
Hickory won three of four games in the series.
The Legends return home to open a three-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds Wednesday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 12:35 p.m.
