PREVIEW: The Shorebirds conclude a four game set at home tonight against the Charleston RiverDogs, Class A Affiliates of the New York Yankees. The Shorebirds are 3-1 on the homestand and are coming off of a walk-off win on Saturday night, 2-1, in ten innings. Yesterday's contest was rained out, so today's contests will begin at 5:05 and both games will be seven inning affairs. Charleston came to town red hot. After taking the series opener, the RiverDogs had ripped off six straight wins and have the league's best overall record. The Shorebirds have won nine of their last 12 games and are a win shy of at least splitting the series. Further, the Shorebirds have won four of their first six series this season. This is the only series scheduled between Delmarva and Charleston this season.
TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Right-handers Domingo Acevedo and Cody Carroll will throw against Delmarva tonight. Acevedo is one of the most high-touted prospects in the New York Yankees farm system and one of the South Atlantic League's top pitchers so far this year. Carroll has had three solid starts and one poor start so far this season.
ROSTER OVERVIEW: Delmarva opens the year with each of the Orioles' First Round Draft picks last summer in shortstop Ryan Mountcastle and outfielder D.J. Stewart. According to Baseball America, the Shorebirds have five of the top 30 prospects in Baltimore's farm system on their roster. Aside from Mountcastle and Stewart, pitchers Ofelky Peralta (#17) and Garrett Cleavinger (#26), along with catcher Alex Murphy (#27), are among the O's most highly-touted farmhands. RHP's Christian Turnipseed and Ryan Meisinger have both posted solid numbers as well.
