Quakes Blanked Despite Bergjans' Gem

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Despite eight innings of fantastic baseball by Tommy Bergjans, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, as they were blanked by the High Desert Mavericks by a score of 1-0.

Bergjans (2-2) allowed a second-inning run, as Luke Tendler led off with a double, then scored on a one-out single by Seth Spivey. The right-hander would go on at one point, to retire 13 straight hitters.

The Quakes' offense stumbled on Sunday though, as Mavs' starter Luis Ortiz (2-1) was solid, scattering four hits over six scoreless frames to earn the win.

The Mavs' bullpen got the job done on Sunday, as Adam Quintana allowed one hit over two scoreless innings, before John Fasola worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save.

The Quakes were held to just five hits on the day, but did see both Andrew Toles (11) and Erick Mejia (7) extend their personal hitting streaks.

The loss drops the Quakes (16-8) two full games back of High Desert (18-6). Rancho will open a four-game series on Monday, as the home stand will continue against the Bakersfield Blaze. Josh Sborz (1-1) will take on Eddie Campbell of the Blaze, with first pitch coming at 7:05pm.

Monday is another Social Media Monday, as fans that follow the Quakes on Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook can take home great prizes. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
