Curve Lose in 12 Innings, Swept by RubberDucks

AKRON, Ohio. - Jordan Smith hit a walk-off single in the twelfth inning to lift the Akron RubberDucks to a 3-2 win over the Altoona Curve on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Curve, their longest losing streak of the year.

Sunday's game was the longest of the season for Altoona (9-13) in innings (12) and time (3:27). Akron (15-8) handed Altoona its first sweep of the season.

After reaching on an error by Frank Duncan (Loss, 2-1), Bradley Zimmer came in to score the game winning run on Smith's walk-off single in the 12th.

Down 2-1, Altoona tied the game in the top of the eighth with a solo home run by Erich Weiss, his second of the season.

A two-run homer by Zimmer against Curve starter Tyler Eppler gave the RubberDucks an early lead in the third.

After a double by Jose Osuna in the sixth, Edwin Espinal doubled him in to get the Curve their first run of the day.

Eppler went five innings and allowed two run on five hits and matched career highs with six strikeouts and three walks.

Jared Lakind pitched three scoreless innings of relief, holding Akron to two hits. Dovydas Neverauskas worked two scoreless frames with three strikeouts.

Duncan allowed one unearned run in 1.2 innings and struck out four.

Akron reliever Ben Heller (Win, 1-0) had three strikeouts in 1.1 innings.

The Curve head to Erie to begin a four-game series on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park. Lefty Cody Dickson (0-2, 6.23) will be on the mound for the Curve, with right-hander Tommy Collier pitching for the SeaWolves. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
