Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys used a strong effort from their pitching staff to defeat the Winston-Salem Dash 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. Matthew Grimes delivered the longest outing of the year by a Keys starting pitcher, while Tanner Scott worked two scoreless innings for his first Carolina League save.

Looking to snap a four-game slide, the Keys scored three runs in the home second and sent eight men to bat. Trailing by a run to start the frame, Cam Kneeland singled off Jordan Stephens, before a pair of one-out walks to Jonah Heim and Tad Gold loaded the bases. Erick Salcedo and Jay Gonzalez followed with back-to-back RBI singles to give Frederick the lead, before a passed ball made it a 3-1 contest.

After allowing a pair of singles in the second, Grimes (3-1) surrendered only one hit in his final 4.1 innings. Earning the victory, the right-hander allowed two runs on four hits in 6.1 innings. He struck out four and walked two. It was also Grimes' second quality start of the year. At one point in the game, he delivered 18 consecutive strikes.

Jonah Heim added an insurance run in the fourth with a solo homer to left, before the Dash moved within a pair in the seventh thanks to a double by Marcus Davis, a base hit and an RBI groundout by Louie Lechich. Frederick got the run back in the eighth on a Jomar Reyes sacrifice fly.

Following a tough eighth inning on Saturday, Scott calmed things down, facing the minimum over two clean innings. During that time he struck out three and walked out one, in a strong bounce back outing after allowing seven runs and walking four on Wednesday.

Stephens (0-3) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in three innings. He walked four and struck out three.

The Keys hit the road on Monday night, as the club makes its first trip to Wilmington to battle the Blue Rocks. Right-hander Cory Jones (0-1, 5.40) gets the ball for the Keys, while Pedro Fernandez (2-0, 1.21) makes the start for the Blue Crew. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. For tickets fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
