Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes stopped High Desert's league-best 11-game winning streak on Friday night, coming from behind for a 7-5 win over the Mavs at LoanMart Field.

Matt Beaty's RBI single to center snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the eighth, an inning that saw the Quakes score a total of three times to take a 7-4 lead.

They'd need the additional runs, as Joe Broussard (1-0), who recorded a pair of outs in the eighth and ended up notching the win, gave up a run in the ninth, but got Tripp Martin to ground into a game-ending double-play to wrap it up and give Rancho their fourth straight win overall.

Friday's game went back-and-forth, as the two teams traded runs in the third and fourth, respectively. Quakes' starter Grant Holmes retired all six men he faced to start the game, but got taken deep by Martin to open the third, as High Desert took a 1-0 lead.

Rancho tied the game in the bottom of the inning though, as Erick Mejia would single and eventually score on a Tim Locastro RBI double, making it 1-1.

Holmes got touched for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but saw his offense respond in the bottom of the inning. Beaty and Yusniel Diaz, who had three hits on the night, had consecutive hits to open the inning. That set the table for Joey Curletta, who took Mavs' starter David Ledbetter deep to left field for his second homer of the year, giving Rancho a 4-3 lead.

The Mavs drew even in the fifth, as Scott Heineman ripped a game-tying homer in the fifth, making it a 4-4 game.

In the last of the eighth, Andrew Toles singled off of Mavs' reliever Austin Pettibone (0-1) to open the inning. After a walk to Locastro, the Mavs went to lefty Joe Filomeno, who promptly struck out Kyle Garlick for the first out of the inning. Beaty followed with a go-ahead RBI single though, as the Quakes took the lead for good at 5-4. Diaz followed with an RBI single, before Curletta drove in a run with a fielder's choice, giving the Quakes a 7-4 advantage.

On Saturday, Rancho (15-7) will host High Desert (17-5) in the second game of the three-game set. Cuban right-hander Yaisel Sierra (0-0) will make his Quakes' debut on Saturday, while Mavs' right-hander Cole Wiper (2-0) will go for High Desert. Game time on Saturday will be 7:05pm. Saturday night is another Fireworks Night, as everyone will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Display thanks to Slater's 50/50. Tickets are available for Saturday's game, purchased online at rcquakes.com.
