Spokane Indians News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - Avista Stadium, in conjunction with Whitworth University and the Spokane Sports Commission, has been selected as the site for the 2016 NCAA Division III Baseball West Regional May 18-22.

The home of the Spokane Indians will serve as the home to one of eight regionals with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series to be played May 27-31 in Appleton, Wisc.

"We are thrilled to be able to bring a NCAA event to Avista Stadium and the Spokane region," said Indians Vice President and General Manager Chris Duff. "This is a great opportunity to showcase an award-winning facility and the Inland Northwest to a broader audience traveling to the region to take part in this event."

Avista Stadium last played host to collegiate baseball in 2006 when it served as the home venue for the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2004 to 2006 during the construction of the Patterson Baseball Complex on the campus of Gonzaga University. The stadium has also hosted the American Legion World Series (2010), the Rockstar Outdoor Hockey Classic (2011) and the inaugural Northwest League/Pioneer Baseball League All-Star Game (2015) in recent years.

The facility is jointly maintained as part of a very successful public-private partnership between the Spokane Indians and Spokane County. Originally constructed in just 90 days in 1958, the ballpark has undergone a number of renovations in recent years and has been named the Northwest League Field of the Year 17 of the last 19 years including four national awards as the Sports Turf Managers Association Field of the Year at the Minor League Baseball Rookie/Short Season-A classification.

In addition to Spokane, the NCAA also announced the hosts for the following 2016 NCAA Division III baseball regionals:

Central Regional - Webster University (St. Louis, Missouri)

New York Regional - SUNY Cortland (Cortland, New York)

Mid-Atlantic Regional - Misericordia University (Dallas, Pennsylvania)

Mideast Regional - Washington & Jefferson College (Washington, Pennsylvania)

Midwest Regional - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (La Crosse, Wisconsin)

New England Regional - Eastern Connecticut State (Willimantic, Connecticut)

South Regional - Berry College (Mount Berry, Georgia)

West Regional - Whitworth University (Spokane, Washington)

Tickets for the regional will be sold on the day of the events at Avista Stadium.
