Colorado Eagles News Release

(LOVELAND, CO) -- The Colorado Eagles shut out the Rapid City Rush 2-0 Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. Eagles goaltender Clarke Saunders registered 23 saves on the night and picked up his first shutout of the season.

Colorado grabbed the game's first goal as Eagles defenseman Teigan Zahn found a shorthanded opportunity after Kyle Kraemer centered the puck into the slot off a rebound. Zahn out-waited Rush goaltender Sam Marotta, pulling him out of position and placed the puck around Marotta for the 1-0 advantage with 3:25 to play in the first period.

The second period was marked by penalties on both sides of the ice. The Eagles were called for 9 penalty minutes in the frame while the Rush added 13 of their own. The penalty-kill units held strong and Colorado headed into second intermission with their 1-0 lead.

A battle in front of the net led to the Eagles second goal of the night. With 6:50 to play in the third period, forward Kyle Ostrow was the final Eagle to get his stick on the puck and send it to the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

The Rush would pull Marotta in favor of an extra skater but it was to no avail. The Eagles defense stood tall for a 2-0 win.

The Eagles head to Toledo, Ohio Wednesday to take on the Toledo Walleye for the first time this season. Puck drop is at 5:15pm MST.
