Bismarck Bobcats News Release

BISMARCK, ND - The Bismarck Bobcats are happy to announce that the team has come to an agreement on a contract extension with head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie for a term of three seasons, starting in 2016-17.

It is the first time the organization has had a contractual agreement with a coach.

"How do you define success? For winning, Layne has a .625 career winning percentage and three Central Cups," explained Bobcats owner and CEO Thom Brigl, in his 14th season as team operator, "but he also develops players, and serves as proud member of the Bismarck/Mandan community. That's why we're so proud to have him as a part of our team for at least another three years."

Between regular season and playoffs, Sedevie has compiled a career coaching record of 218-125-28 and helmed the Cats to three Central Division playoff titles from 2011 to 2013, while serving as assistant coach for another Central Cup and the Robertson Cup championship in 2009-10.

Since the Bismarck native took over as head coach in the summer of 2010, the Bobcats have had 51 players commit to a collegiate program, including 26 to NCAA Division I schools.

"Of course, I'd like to thank Thom and his wife, Brenda, for their faith in me and the program we've built," stated Sedevie, "but most of all, I have to thank the players. We've had some really special guys come through [the Bobcats], and I wouldn't be here right now without them."

Next week, the sixth-year bench boss will serve as head coach of Team Central at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in Plymouth, Mich.-the third time he's been tabbed to lead the Central Division all-star squad. He's also been the Central's assistant coach at Top Prospects twice.

The Bobcats will wrap up their seven-game home stand Friday when they host the rival Minot Minotauros at the VFW Sports Center.

Tickets are now on sale for Friday's rivalry throwdown: fans can buy and print tickets 24 hours a day at BismarckBobcats.com, by clicking "Shop Now" on the team Facebook page or by calling 222-3300.

Friday's installment of the Battle of Highway 83 will be broadcast live locally on SuperTalk 1270, KLXX-AM, the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, and worldwide online at NAHL.FASTHockey.com-the official web television partner of the North American Hockey League-with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm.
